Highway driving tips for beginners in India
Merges, overtakes and lane discipline — how to stay calm on faster roads.
Highways feel fast because closing speeds are high. Build speed in the acceleration lane, match traffic, then merge — do not stop at the end of the ramp unless traffic forces it.
Keep right for overtaking where local rules and markings expect it, and return left when safe. Mirror and signal every lane change.
Overtake only with a clear gap and known exit. Never cut in tightly on trucks. In rain, reduce speed early — highway spray hides brake lights.
When you are ready for longer runs, iTurn’s long-drive packages take licensed short-distance drivers onto real corridors with an instructor beside them.
