Hill start without rolling back: clutch methods that work
Biting point, handbrake method and why Kerala slopes expose weak clutch feel.
Hill starts fail when learners panic and dump the clutch. The fix is a repeatable sequence: find the biting point, hold the car, then add gas and release the brake smoothly.
Handbrake method: hold on the handbrake, find bite, feel the car pull, release the handbrake as you add throttle. Practise on a gentle slope before steep ones.
Biting-point method without handbrake needs finer clutch feel — useful in stop-go city grades once you are consistent.
iTurn’s syllabus includes dedicated hill work because Trivandrum and surrounding roads punish weak clutch control. If hills are your only fear, a short focus session can be enough.
